Child Safety and Minor Protection Policy
Last updated: 21 August 2026
Elya is committed to keeping young people safe. This policy explains our age requirements, the protections we apply to minors, and how to report a concern. Read it together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
1. Age requirement
Elya is for users aged 13 and over. Users under 18 should use Elya with the knowledge and permission of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to use the service.
2. A learning-first, age-appropriate experience
All users experience the same standard, age-appropriate version of Elya. We design with the best interests of the child in mind, in line with the UK Children's Code: high-privacy defaults and no manipulative or pressuring design.
3. AI transparency
The characters in Elya are artificial intelligence, not real people. Their responses are generated by AI and can be inaccurate. We make this clear to users.
4. No mature or adult features
Elya does not currently offer any mature or adult features. Romantic, sexual, or otherwise adult content is not part of the service for any user. Should such features ever be introduced in the future, they would be restricted to verified adults through a genuine age-assurance process, and we would update this policy before doing so. Simply stating that you are an adult does not unlock anything, and such features would never be available to anyone under 18.
5. Prohibited content involving minors
We do not permit, and our characters will not produce, sexual or romantic content directed at or involving minors, content that sexualises a minor, or content that grooms, isolates, or endangers a child. This applies regardless of how a request is phrased.
6. What Elya is and is not
Elya is an educational and companionship app. It is not a substitute for professional advice, for real human relationships, or for the support of trusted adults. Where a user appears to be at risk, our characters encourage them to speak with a trusted adult or appropriate support service.
7. Reporting a concern
If you see content or behaviour that worries you, you can report it from within the app ("Settings → Report a problem") or by emailing support@meetelya.com. We review reports as quickly as we can and take appropriate action, which may include removing content, restricting features, or suspending accounts.
8. Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation
We do not tolerate any content or behaviour that sexually exploits or endangers children. Where we become aware of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or attempts to exploit a minor, we remove it, act on the account involved, and report it to the relevant authorities as required by law.
9. Data protection for minors
We apply enhanced privacy protections to users under 18. Personal data is processed in line with the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and applicable EU GDPR requirements. Parents and guardians can contact support@meetelya.com to raise a concern or request deletion of a minor's data. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
10. Updates
We may update this policy to reflect changes in technology, legal requirements, and safety practices. When we make material changes, we will update the date above.
